EASTMAN KODAK Co - Six-16 Brownie Special (1938 - 1942)

Box Cameras
With its trapezoïd body, the Six-16 Brownie Special is a strange camera. Robust and easy to use, it was a real commercial success in US where it was commercialized from September 38 to July 42.

Lens & shutter are typical for this type of camera : meniscus lens and rotative shutter. Only two speeds : [I]nstaneous and Pause [B].

The focussing is done by selecting one of the two ranges of distance offered : "6  to 15 feets" and "above 15 feets".

The shutter release located on the top of the camera can be locked in order to avoid unexpected snapshot. On the other side is the film advance wheel. The camera has, on the left hand, a folding stand used to position the camera vertically (due to a rectangular format).

The Six-16 Brownie Special is quite identical to the Six-20 Brownie Flash (which became the "Flash Brownie Six-20" in 1946). The Six-20 Flash Brownie differs from the Six-16 only by the use of the format 620 (instead of the 616) and because it has to possibility to connect a flash on its front side.
