During 20 years,
from the early 30's to the 50's one, the company LUMIERE has made a lot
of profit with the multiple variants of the ScoutBox camera.
On the left, a version made c.1935. As the picture shows, this
camera is in a poor condition, having obviously suffered from moisture.
Its sad shape can be explained because the adhesive used to stick its
coating was not a top quality one. |

Two variants of the Scout-Box lumière
|
The body is
made of metal covered with black leather. The front is decorated with a
metal sheet with vertical lines. The trade mark LUMIERE is written
across the bottom. On the front are also located the release button
and the speed selector. Three speed positions are available : Pause B (labelled
P), Time exposure (labelled S??) and Instantaneous. Framing was possible
using a reflex viewfinder that could be swivelled for horizontal or
vertical pictures.
The camera on the right hand side started its career at the beginning
of the second world war. The improvement of its manufacturing is obvious.
The leather used to cover the boby is of a better quality and the
shutter release has been relocated to make it more accessible. La
position "S" has disappeared. The framing remains unchanged. |
The opening of these two cameras is done by removing the right side of
its body. A lock located on the left side ensures closing. This camera
uses a film 120 (format 6x9 cm) on reduced axe spool : Lumière film N°
49). |
