Exakta VX version 2 (1954)

It is difficult to not be lost among the different Exakta models V, VX, VAREX V, VAREX VX, etc... In addition, each one has several versions, all very similar.

While in hands, you instantly realize this camera is a serious one. It is heavy, robust and sophisticated.
The model presented here is an Exakta VX version 2. It is the first model of the VX's series being equipped with a counter for pictures.

Different lens can be adapted on its body. It is presented here with a lens Carl Zeiss Jena - Tessar 1:3.5 f=50 mm. It has also interchangeable viewfinders in order to allow ad-hoc focusing glass.

From the shutter side, the Exakta VX version 2 is equiped with a focal plan shutter operating within a range of shutter speeds from 1/25 to 1/1000 of seconde. This camera has also a special knob allowing setting of the long exposures and self-timer.

From all the cameras I'm collecting, this Exakta is the one which endured the longuest trip to reach my home !

By december 30th, 2008, I won its bid on eBay US. The shipping of this camera was ensured by USPS. By January 3rd, 2009 the camera left San Francisco and arrived in France 6 days later. At that time, its delivery was transferred from USPS to Coliposte. It stayed more than one month somewhere in the offices of this company before being returned to the vendor in California without never knocking at my door. By March 31st, 2009 it was back in San Francisco. Prefering not having to deal again with Coliposte, I asked my vendor to send it to a friend of mine who is leaving in Oklahoma. In May 2009, while visiting my friend, I can finally discover this superb camera that I bring back to France by June 1st, 2009. All in all, this camera has travelled 5 months and covered almost 46800 kms...

I want to thank the kindness of my vendor (Tim Kelly) who was honest and efficient during that period. Nothing to say also regarding USPS which did their job. Now for Coliposte... I do NOT recommand it !
