Folding cameras

Resulting from the merger in 1919 of the two German companies Nettel and Contessa, the brand new company Contessa-Nettel introduces in 1920 the model Cocarette.

It is equipped with a shutter Compur (T, B, 1s, 1/2s, 1/5s, 1/10s, 1/25s, 1/50s, 1/100s, 1/250s) having the serial number N° 601301.

Its lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena 1:4,5 f=105mm having the serial number N° 492792. This allows to date it precisely as being made in 1922 (range of serial number : N° 438900 to 498000).

The focusing is made by moving on its rails the tray supporting the lens. This can be made by selecting one of the five positions of a lever (2, 3, 5, 10m, infinite). This lever is located onto the folding front plate of the camera. It is also possible to vertically decentralize the lens by turning a knob located on the top of a pole on the right of the shutter.

In 1926, the company Contessa-Nettel merges again. This time it is with the companies Ernemann, Goerz and Ica. The result is the company Zeiss Ikon. The Cocarette will continue to be marketed under the mark Zeiss Ikon until 1930.
