Tower Flash 120 – Model 7

I discovered this little box in US. It was made in 1952 in West Germany by the Bilora Company.

In fact, the Tower Flash 120 – Model 7 is strictly identical to the Stahlbox model from the same manufacturer.
It has been
marketed and sold by the American chain of department stores : Sears Roebuck & Co. This last one marketed a wide quantity of cameras under the label « Tower ».

It is an affordable Box camera and its characteristics are without any surprise : metal box, meniscus lens 1:11, fixed focus, rotary shutter offering two speeds (T and instantaneous).

The camera has a synchro-flash located on the top. It uses film 120 giving 6 x 9 cm negatives.

It was in February 1909 that two Germans : Wilhelm Kürbi and Carl Niggeloh founded the Bilora Company in Barmen-Rittershausen. At that time, they are specialized in the production of metal parts. In November 1911, they implement a second production unit in Radevormwald. Teeming with ideas, Kürbi and Niggeloh start to produce telescopic tripods. Starting 1935, they decide to produce photographic cameras from the production unit of Radevormwald. Until it stopped in 1975, the production exceeded one million of cameras produced. Today, Bilora is still producing tripods.
