Box Cameras
Contemporary and rival of the Fotobox, the Rollex is a less sophisticated version of the Kovex camera. The Rollex was also marketed under the designation of Scopa by a mail-order selling company.

Rollex (c.1950)

From a technical standpoint, the Rollex is a box camera using a film 120 and producing negatives of format 6x9 cm.
Its body is made of stamped metal covered with a black leatherette. Due to the ravages of time, this one is quite ever peeling from its support.

This camera has a trigger allowing two speeds: Instant and Pose. This one can be selected using a tiny level located just above the lens.

The Special lens is linked to a shutter having: "Petit" (small) et "Grand Diaph" (large) apertures.

But the most interesting characteristic of this camera is its viewfinder.
This one is protected in a kind of little metal box, located on the front face of the camera. The cover box opens when pressing on a little button and a prismatic viewfinder pops up.

Kovex, Rollex et Scopa are the three cameras ever produced by the SCAPEC (Société de Construction d'Appareils Photographiques et Cinématographiques) located at Levallois-Perret (France). They were presented as more beautiful, more sophisticated but also more expensive than any other box cameras available at that time.

The upshot of it all was a resounding flop for these three cameras.
