Wood, paperboard and leather are the main components of this Brownie N°2
Model D, manufactured during the First World War.
Brownie N°2 is an evolution of Brownie Original and evolved into several
models from 1901 to 1935 (the 1st US licence of Brownie N°2 is dated January
12, 1897).
The ergonomics of this model is rudimentary. No diaphragm but a simple
plate with three holes located in front of the lens provides different
settings. These can be set by pulling a metal tab located on the top of the
camera.
Another tab, to the left of the first, allows one to lock the shutter
open for long exposures. Take care of your nails!...
The shutter release is on the right side of the camera; below is the film
advance key with its round rod. Framing is possible using one of the two
viewfinders located on the right and the top of the camera.
This model uses a film 120 (6x9 cm) on a spool with a wooden core...
As any other regular box camera, the interior of the camera is removed
to load the film.
Inside the camera a black paperboard flap ensures light tightness.
The back is latched by a unique, rather ingenious sliding/tilting latch.
